Library Services During Phase 1 of COVID-19 Reopening
Available Library Services
- Beginning May 4, 2020, window service and access to one public computer is available during normal library hours.
- Monday - Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Services provided at the vestibule window:
- Check out books, DVDs, and magazines
- Make copies and send faxes
- Open new library accounts
- Laminate documents
- No returns can be accepted through the vestibule window
- One computer isolated and available by appointment only
- Wireless printing available through the public wi-fi network
Using Our Window Service
- Window service provided through vestibule window.
- Window labeled “Window Service”
- Ring bell for service
- Patrons must call ahead or place a hold online for materials. No requests for materials will be taken at the window.
- Call 419-864-8181 to make a request by phone. Allow 24 hours for requests to be filled.
- Go to https://cardington.cool-cat.org/ to place a hold through our online catalog. Choose Cardington items only. Placing holds on items owned by other libraries at this time may take a month or longer to fulfill.
- Educators may set their due date on phone orders only.
- Patrons have three business days to pick up holds.
- Use markings on the sidewalk to help us all maintain a safe distance.
- A library staff member will verify your identity before passing materials through the window. Please remember to bring your library card.
- Staff is not permitted to open the door or to deliver materials to your car.
- Payments for copies and faxes will be collected in advance to help minimize multiple trips to the window.
- The staff is not permitted to handle patron phones, thumb drives, or other devices for the purpose of printing documents.
- New library accounts will become active within 24 hours.
How to Return Borrowed Materials to the Library
- All materials, including magazines, may be placed in one of two book returns.
- Our book return is located in the parking lot behind the building.
- For your convenience while using our window service, a second window at the front of the building has been designated for book returns. It is open during our normal business hours.
- Under no circumstances are returns permitted through the vestibule window.
- All returns will be immediately placed in quarantine for 3 days and will not be checked in until the end of the quarantine period. This may cause notices to be generated that you can ignore.
Using A Computer
- One computer is available for use by appointment only.
- Call 419-864-8181 to schedule a one-hour appointment.
- If you need more time, please notify the librarian at the time of scheduling.
- At the appointed time, go to the library entrance in the courtyard at the rear of the building. Ring the doorbell to be let in. The computer is just inside the door.
- For your safety and ours, the computer is isolated. You will not have access to the library beyond the computer and restrooms. Despite this isolation, we ask that you please wear a mask covering your nose and mouth.
- No gaming allowed.
- Limited assistance will be available to retrieve copies and support from a 6-foot distance. Ring the doorbell for assistance.
Printing from Your Own Device
- Wireless printing available through our public wi-fi network.
- Instructions for printing are available at the service window.
- Print jobs may be picked up at the service window. The fee is 10 cents per page for black and white prints.
Assistance with Your Digital Needs
- Digital literacy assistance from our Digital Literacy Trainer is not available at this time.
March 17, 2020 Update...
After closely monitoring the evolving situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have decided to close the library at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 18 for an indefinite period of time. Please stop in before then to stock up on reading materials that will get you through the pandemic. Or, better yet, stay home and borrow electronic materials using your library card from the approximately 450,000 items on Overdrive at https://ohdbks.overdrive.com/. Overdrive can also be accessed with an app, Libby https://www.overdrive.com/apps/libby/.
Have materials to return? Our book drop is open 24/7. Our public internet is also available 24/7 from the parking lot or courtyard area. Have questions? Call us at 419-864-8181.
March 13, 2020 Update...
The Cardington-Lincoln Public Library is closely monitoring information about the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). The health and safety of our customers and staff is a top priority. Currently our location at 128 East Main Street is open and operating under normal schedules. At this time, the library will continue to offer all regularly scheduled events and programs, except Story Time and one-on-one technical assistance with our Digital Literacy Trainer.
We're working with local health officials and following directions from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). Right now, we are taking additional steps beyond regular practices and cleaning and sanitizing all libraries as much as possible. We're also making hand gel sanitizers available for library users.
Everyone has a role to play in reducing the spread of COVID-19 and staying healthy. Please stay home and do not visit the library if you are exhibiting signs of the flu or if you are not feeling well. We invite you to explore everything we have to offer on our website. You can download eBooks and audiobooks on Overdrive or the Libby App. If you have questions, please call the library at 419-864-8181.
To stay healthy, the CDC and other health agencies recommend:
- Washing your hands frequently. Wash your hands for 20 seconds or more with soapy water. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home and away from others if you are sick.
- Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces frequently.
- Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.

Ohio Department of Health

ODH has also set up a call center to address questions regarding COVID-19. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and can be reached at 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634).

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has set up a website with a range of information about the current risk to the public, symptoms to watch for, prevention, testing, and advice for schools, communities and businesses.
