Summer reading is a yearly program that offers weekly prizes for reading, weekly entertainment for readers and families, crafts and activities, a pool party for those who finish the program on time, and a grand prize raffle. Each year has a different theme shared by libraries nationwide. All programs are free and open to everyone.
Summer reading programs provide activities for kids during the out-of-school season and help prevent the "summer slide" (the documented decline in reading proficiency among students who do not reading during the summer).
The 2020 Summer Reading theme is Imagine Your Story, exploring themes of imagination, fairy tales, and fantasy.
Early registration begins Monday, June 1.
Programming begins the week of June 8.
Every Tuesday @ 11 AM there will be a craft in the library basement.
Every Wednesday @ 11 AM we will enjoy a different engaging and educational entertainer in the American Legion Hall:
- June 10- Animal Magic: Read on the Wild Side
- June 17- The Masterson's Magic
- June 24- Jim Kleefeld's Steampunk Show
- July 1- The Science Tellers (science and storytelling)
- July 8- Mr. Puppet (ventriloquism)
We will finish summer reading with a splash, providing free entry to the pool party for all those who completed their reading logs.
