George Stiles was born in Watertown, New York prior to 1820. He and his family are shown to be living in Cardington from 1860 until is death in 1879. He was a lawyer. He was practicing law in Pottawattime, Iowa. It is also noted that he married Sophia Williamson at Nauvo, Illinois in 1842 (Nauvo was a significant religious village). Stiles joined the Mormon Church in 1846 at the Nauvo Temple in Illinois, but was later excommunicated. He is also shown to have two wives, the second named Isabella.
