John Mortimer Stiles was born on 10/15/1847 in Galena, Illinois. His father, George P Stiles served as a Lieutenant with the 31st OVI Company E during the War.  John married Luella Goodman in Morrow County, Ohio on 10/12/1869, two children were born of this union. John and his family lived in Cardington where he was a clerk in a dry goods store. Sometime after 1870 he and his family moved to Illinois. It appears that Luella died before 1890. On 5/19/1890 John married Augusta A Holmes in Cook County, Illinois. John was employed as a paints and oils dealer while living in Illinois. It appears that John and Augusta divorced.
