Battles in which he fought:

The 88th. OVI, also known as the Governor’s Guards, guarded prisoners at Camp Chase in Columbus and was engaged in the pursuit of Morgan’s Raiders in 1864 and the suppression of the Holmes County Rebellion in June, 1863.  This was before Ferris enlisted.

Other interesting information discovered:

By 1880 Ferris had moved to Fremont, Michigan, and lived in various communities there until his death.
