The 85th. OVI organized at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio between May and June 1862 to guard a large number of Rebel prisoners held there. Soldiers mustered out between September 23 and September 27, 1862 at expiration of service.

Other interesting information discovered:

Hiram Pratt Howard was born on July 2,1841.  He married Christina M. Hack in Morrow County on March 25, 1866.  Four children were born of this union.  Hiram lived and farmed in the Westfield Township area of Morrow County most of his life.  He applied for an invalid’s pension on April 3, 1890.  His wife Christina applied for a widow’s pension on May 27, 1909.
