Mustered out with company Sept. 23, 1862. Stationed at Camp Chase, Columbus to guard confederate prisoners. On June 30, 1863 enlisted in the 2nd. Reg. Ohio Heavy Cavalry for 3 years. Mustered out on Aug. 4, 1865 at Knoxville, Tenn.

Byron Monroe was just 16 when he entered the service. He lived in Morrow County for most of his life. In 1869 he married Sarah Sedler. He died in 1871 at the young age of 24. He filed for an invalid’s pension in July, 1866. Evidently when he left the service, he was not in good health. His wife filed for a widow’s pension in January 1892, followed by a child filing a minor’s pension four years later.
