Battles in which he fought:

85th OVI:  This Regiment was organized at Camp Chase Columbus, Ohio in May and June 1862 to aid in the guarding of Rebel prisoners confined there. It was mustered out on 9/23/1862 by reason of expiration of service.

174th OVI:

Other interesting information discovered:

John Anderson Roach was born in Ohio on 7/1/1844. His brother, Simon Peter Roach served in the 187th OVI Company C and was a member of the 136th National Guard.  John was married twice:  His first marriage was to Lucretia Fisher, four children were born of this union. Lucretia died in 1877. John then married Sarah Elizabeth Fisher, nine children were born of this union.  John’s childhood years were spent in the Cardington, Ohio area. Sometime after the war he moved to the State of Iowa where he was employed as a day laborer and farmer. His obituary stated he “was a good neighbor, patient, unassuming man.  He was a member of the Iowa GAR and always took pleasure in anything pertaining to the post.”  His wife Sarah collected a widow’s pension on 10/7/1907.
