Herendeen was born in Mt. Gilead, Oh. A younger brother, Caleb enlisted on the same day and in the same company. By 1870 he was living in Lincoln, Iowa and by 1900 at Rock Creek, Kansas. His wife’s name was Melissa Painter. In 1920 he was living at Rock Creek, Kansas, where he died.
