Samuel Kirkpatrick was born at Cadiz, Harrison County Ohio. By 1850 he was living in Knox County, where he remained for a period just before the war broke out. In 1862 he was drafted at Zanesville, Ohio. His wife’s name was Amanda Daymude. From 1870 until his death he lived in Cardington Township. At some point he became a minister, and in fact delivered the opening prayer at the dedication of the Soldiers Monument at Cardington in 1889.
