While his regiment was engaged in the battle of Chickasaw Bluffs, Mississippi. Bennett was most likely sick and not with his regiment.

Other interesting information discovered:

The 96th. regiment lost during service 2 Officers and 46 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 5 Officers and 286 Enlisted men by disease. Total 339.

Date of Death:  May 5, 1893.              Place of burial:  Bethel Cemetery, Cardington, Ohio
