The 85th OVI was organized in Ohio in May and June, 1862 to serve three months, retained at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio to guard a large number of Rebel prisoners in confinement.  Soldiers mustered out between September 23 and 27, 1862 at the end of service.

Other interesting information discovered:

Robert Maxwell Boggs was born in Cardington, Ohio in 1838. He married Harriett J Heiges in Montgomery County, Ohio on 8/17/1869, four children were born of this union. Robert was a school teacher who lived in Cardington, Delaware, Bellbrook,  Ohio during his lifetime. He collected an invalid’s pension on 8/10/1892. Harriett collected a widow’s pension on 8/14/1897.
