The 85th OVI was organized at Camp Chase, Columbs, Ohio between May and June 1862 to guard a large number of Rebel prisoners. Soldiers mustered out between September 2 and September 27, 1862 at expiration of sentence.

Other interesting information discovered:

Philo Holcomb was born in Pennsylvania on 2/21/1843. Philo moved t the Atlanta, Georgia area after the War. He married Rebecca Fenton Starr King on 11/4/1878 in Atlanta, Georgia, 8 children were born of this union.  Philo was employed as a telegraph and telephone operator while living in Atlanta. He collected an invalid’s pension on 8/30/1911. Rebecca collected a widow’s pension on 6/10/1926.
