Other interesting information discovered: Daniel Long was the youngest of three brothers from Cardington that served in the war. Robert and John Long served in the 65th. OVI. John died of wounds suffered at Stone River, Tennessee. Robert survived 18 months of imprisonment and the sinking of the Sultana in April 1865. The 3rd. OVI was part of an infamous mass surrender in what was known as Strait’s Raid, in Alabama. The captured troops were exchanged, and remained at Camp Chase in Columbus for the duration of the war.
