Hugh Rodgers was born in Pennsylvania on 8/15/1830 where he learned stair building and joiner work. Hugh married Rachel Evans in 1835, together they had three children. He helped to finish the building of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Chesterville, Ohio. Rachel died in 1870. Hug then married Eliza Bruce, no children were born of this union. Hugh received an invalid pension on 3/10/1879. Eliza Rodgers received a widows pension after Hugh’s death in 1899.
After the war Hugh returned to Morrow County where he purchased land in Harmony township and Chester township. On the property is located the Roger Lake comprising of seven acres. Hugh Rodgers was elected to represent Morrow County and Marion County in the Legislature of 1893. In his social relations, he was a member of the G.A.R., in which he served two years as Post Commander.
