 Killed at the battle of Perryville, Kentucky on October 8, 1862.  He was originally buried on the battlefield.  His body was brought back to Cardington and buried at Glendale Cemetery, Section D,E.

Other interesting information discovered:

Promoted to rank of Captain.  A captain Cunard of his company was killed at the same battle.  They are buried in a common grave at Glendale Cemetery.  The local GAR post was named after St. John.
