Remarks (When discharged, re-enlisted, wounded, captured, died of disease or killed):
There remains confusion on this soldier’s record. While he states that he enlisted in McLaughlin’s Squadron in 1862, he shows up on its roster with an 1864 enlistment date. He also shows up in Company C of the 5th. OVC, but is not listed on their roster. His date of entry into the service is taken directly from his GAR sketch, which appears on the back of this page.
Battles in which he fought:
Siege of Knoxville, Tenn. Nov. 17 – Dec. 4, 1863
Stoneman’s Raid to Macon, Ga. July 26-31, 1864
Siege of Atlanta, Ga. Aug. 1 – Sept. 2, 1864
Blackville, S.C. Feb. 11, 1865
Bentonville, N.C. March 19 – 21, 1865
Other interesting information discovered:
Taylor was born in Richland county on December 14, 1848. He may have been married twice; wives named Mary and Hattie show up on various census records. In 1880 he is shown to be living in Cardington, Ohio, where he was a grain dealer.
