When Samuel Burke entered the service he had three children aged 7, 4 and 1. He must have made it home on leave, as he also had a son born in 1863. His first wife, Ellen, died on March 11, 1865, while he was still in the service. He married a second time, to Sarah Gibbs, on April 29, 1866.
Regiment lost during service 7 Officers and 172 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 1 Officer and 135 Enlisted men by disease. Total 315.
