Mustered out with Company on 7/3/1865. Private Earl suffered an injury to his ankle during service.

This Regiment was originally organized of a Battalion of four Companies organized at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio from September 24 to October 27, 1862 to serve three years and designated, “First Battalion Governors Guards.”
Six new Companies were organized at Camp Chase from July 24, to August 3, 1863 to serve three years and designated the 88th Ohio Volunteers. It mustered out of service July 3, 1865.
This Regiment was principally engaged in guarding Rebel prisoners at Camp Chase. It was also engaged in the pursuit of Morgan’s Raiders and the suppression of the Holmes County Rebellion July 1863.

Amos M Earl II was born in Cardington, Ohio on 12/12/1834. He was married three times. On 6/8/1850 he married Mary Johnson in Morrow County, one child was born of this union. Mary died in 1852. Amos then married Elizabeth Bain in Morrow County on 1/24/1853, no children were born of this union. Elizabeth died in 1857. On 6/16/1857 Amos married Christina Amick in Morrow County and had seven children. Amos lived in Cardington and farmed in the Cardington area. At age 72 he is listed as living on Walnut Street in Cardington. Sometime after 1900 he moved to the Indianapolis, Indiana area. He collected an invalid’s pension on 7/14/1879.
